Why South Dakota?

As we begin to introduce our family we will start with where we live and why we picked this location. We live in a small town in south eastern South Dakota. We moved to this location last spring from the Twin City area where both of us had lived for our entire lives. Why? Because one day while we were evaluating what we wanted out of life, we thought to ourselves why not live where you want to be. We knew it would be difficult to travel with so many little kids, so we wanted a location where day trips or smaller trips would be much easier.

South Dakota is home to some of the nations best public hunting, fishing, hiking, and other open to the public outdoor recreation opportunities. Sneaking out for afternoon hunts, shore fishing (because we don’t have a boat), and camping destinations are now not only possible for us, we can do many of these in areas that are known to be great for these activities. It is so nice having all these opportunities close to home. And in the world of outdoor recreation, one thing we have learned is that location is probably the most important aspect in having success. This move combined with the change to homeschooling has drastically increased our potential to enjoy all of God’s great outdoors. We are fortunate to be able to sometimes get out during weekdays when traffic from others is greatly decreased. If any of you have tips for us, on what areas our family should explore or small vacation trips we could make, or things we should try, we would love to hear them.
